Are there exemptions to Condition 8547?

 

In some instances, a visa holder may work for the same employer in Australia for more than 6 months, if:

 

  1. In different locations for the same employer, provided work in one location does not exceed 6 months;
  2. Work in plant and animal cultivation;
  3. Work in natural disasters and recovery;
  4. Work in critical sectors, including agriculture, food processing, health, aged and disability care and childcare, tourism, and hospitality;
  5. Work in certain industries, including fishing and pearling, tree farming and felling, construction and mining, in the NT.

 

How to request permission to work for more than 6 months for one employer

 

The Department of Home Affairs may grant permission in the following instances:

 

  1. 1If the visa holder has applied for a visa allowing ongoing full-time work and is awaiting the outcome of the application;
  2. If the visa holder is doing work that is critical to the employer, and the employer has included a supporting letter with the visa holder’s request.

 

The visa holder must submit an online form through the Department of Home Affairs to make a request for extension.
